The Plant at Kyle Open House
Last week we had the pleasure of attending a planner open house at an unusual venue called The Plant at Kyle.

“An award-winning architectural landmark, the building was designed by Lake|Flato Architects as a private residence using steel recycled from the Alamo Cement Plant. The house was completed in 1989.” This secluded property can host small intimate events or larger receptions up to 300 guests by adding tents in the fields around the stunning home.

The Plant at Kyle is housed on 17 acres of private land and is nestled away in the Texas Hill Country. According to the property managers, Martha and Jamie, you might even see a fox, armadillo, or wild turkey roaming nearby while lounging by the pool, sitting on the screened in porch, or playing games on the lawn.

We had the privilege of providing rental decor for their two oak farm tables and chose colors to bring out both the natural rustic beauty of the landscape, as well as the industrial feel of the architecture. The Plant at Kyle was built with sustainability in mind and was “green before it was cool.”

We loved the unique design of the screened in two story porch, with stairs leading up to a balcony and bedroom, where you could see out over the patio. Downstairs, there is an indoor living room and fully equipped Kitchen. They even have their own bistro lighting hung in the screened in porch, to light up the night and provide the perfect ambiance for any reception.

We were joined by a wonderful team of vendors who helped put on this event including Royal Fig Catering, Mad Rooster’s, HEB Blooms in Kyle, Whim Hospitality, and more.

If you’re planning a small to medium wedding or are looking for a unique and sustainable venue to host your event, look no further. The space inspires creativity and we can’t wait to help with your events at the Plant at Kyle!

A Groom’s Guide to the Perfect After Wedding Cigar/Whiskey Pairing
Amanda White, Research Technologist in the Department of Psychiatry at Penn State College of Medicine states,”A number of behavioral studies have demonstrated that smells trigger more vivid emotional memories and are better at inducing that feeling of “being brought back in time” than images.” Whether you’re a cigar aficionado or want nothing to do with smoking at all, the smell, feel or taste of a cigar has the ability to trigger a memory of a special day or time in your life. Tad Gage, from Cigar Chronicles states,”Beyond all the basics, there is a “certain something” about cigars and fine tobacco that captures our interest and passion. A cylindrical roll of well-aged leaves and the drifting blue smoke of a fine stogie tell part of the story, but not the full story. In the end, tobacco is as much about enjoying the moment and making memories, as it about the smoke itself. Not every cigar or situation will yield a memorable moment, but if you keep your eyes, ears and taste buds open, it’s surprising how many times a fine cigar can also yield a fine memory.” From Tennessee to Texas, cigar stations at weddings are becoming quite popular. Even if the bride and groom are non-smokers, it is a great way to connect your guests with conversation, entertainment and those memories we all go out of our way to leave in each guest’s mind about your special day.
Although I could go into great detail about the do’s and dont’s of a great cigar station at your wedding, this is more or less all about you and your personal experience. The stress of pulling off a perfect wedding day, although on many occasions are left to the professionals, can still leave you ready to kick back and unwind after the vows are completed and the cake has been cut. There is something about smoking a cigar that can make a person feel strong, relaxed, confident, and dauntless; all the things a man will need on the first day/night of their new responsibilities; just think of Clint Eastwood in The Outlaw Josey Wales, Demi Moore as a navy seal in, G.I. Jane, General Patton on the front lines speaking to his troops, and of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger in almost every picture. Besides making the choice of which pairing you are going to try, there are a few other decisions you will need to make.
For example, make sure beforehand that your choice of venue allows smoking, as some do not. Another decision to make is choosing the perfect time; whether you slip off and find a quiet spot alone, have your wedding planner script in a 30 minutes hiatus, or choose to wait until after the new in-laws have made their way back to the hotel, will be totally up to your personality and style. Another decision to make is whether you choose to kick back alone with just your thoughts, invite the best man to join for some good conversation, or whether you are going to make it a bonding moment for you and your new forever friend in the middle of all the chaos while your guests eat, drink, dance, and be merry. Now for the options… Whether you have tried every cigar and whiskey on this list or have
never heard of them before, I recommend just going with what sounds like the most enjoyable to you for the occasion. It can be a tricky thing to pick the right whiskey for a cigar—I would say personally that whiskey will overpower most mild cigars, but sometimes there are exceptions. According to an article by Cigar Aficionado’s Jack Bettridge, “We’ve been pleasantly surprised in pairings when a big, ballsy cigar made a great partner for a light whiskey and vice versa.” In the grand scheme of things, it is always best to leave the details to the professionals. With that being said, here are some links to some great pairings along with excellent descriptions of flavor and taste. Some may be quite expensive, while others will be more affordable, however I will say if you can afford it, don’t let price be a barrier to the experience of building a great and lasting memory! https://www.jrcigars.com/blending-room/university/cigar-pairings/best-american-whiskeybourbon-and-cigar-pairing/2015/07/27/https://www.famous-smoke.com/cigaradvisor/17-top-whiskey-and-cigar-pairings

Hip, Hot and Happening for 2017
Chances are, if you’re planning on tying the knot this year, you’re exploring current wedding “fashion” and researching emerging wedding trends. While you want your special day to be stylish and sophisticated, you don’t want a cookie cutter wedding that looks and feels just like everyone else’s. Here are some thoughts about the look and feel of hip, hot and happening 2017 nuptials.
Let’s start with color – the most influential choice you’ll make as you’re planning your day. From the invitation to bridesmaid’s and groomsmen’s apparel to the table linens and china to floral (or non-floral) centerpieces – color choice has a profound impact on every aspect of the event. It sets the mood and establishes the tone for every other event aspect. The 2017 Pantone color of the year is “Greenery”, so look for many shades of green on this year’s wedding scene.

Jerry Hayes Photography Green may well be the perfect wedding color. It represents growth and nature, and is a relaxing color with universal appeal. This year’s bride will discover a variety of unique and interesting ways to incorporate Greenery into the wedding theme. A “plant-able” invitation with imbedded seeds (botanicalpaperworks.com) not only reduces paper waste but sends a message about going green. Selecting an outdoor wedding venue (or an indoor / outdoor venue as a hedge against bad weather) is another way to incorporate Greenery into a trendy wedding. With our early springs and late fall seasons, there’s green grass at almost any time of year in Texas. Being outdoors on a perfect spring or early summer day, saying your vows surrounded by native grasses and towering live oak trees . . . it doesn’t get any “greener” than that!
Jerry Hayes Photo Brio Photography
Greenery can be incorporated into any wedding style. From vintage and vintage glam to rustic, from elegant to classic – and everything in between, green can be adapted to any wedding décor and design. Nature gives us an abundance of affordable décor options and alternatives well suited to rustic, vintage and even vintage glam designs. Everything from green apples and pears to succulents to ferns to green branches with colored berries or flowers can be used to capitalize on a green theme. Most of the classically affordable flowers (daisies, carnations, etc.) are available in green varieties. For a more elegant classic look, green roses, hydrangeas, orchids, lily of the valley and many other floral selections make a lovely green statement. Bridal bouquets made entirely of mixed greenery are also growing in popularity.

Green options for creating a beautifully designed reception are readily available to today’s bride. Start with a cocktail period (while you and your wedding party are taking those family photos) featuring a signature green apple martini. Or offer a whisky or wine tasting or flights of local craft beers – served in stunning green glassware. Covering the cocktail tables with fun and fashionable table cloths, then adding lounge seating and sprinkling matching green-toned throw pillows enhances your guest’s pre-reception experience. Rental providers offer linen and furniture options the suit every event style and fit any event budget. Available green-tone linens range from organics to faux silks and satins to sequins and rosettes.
Todd White Photography Penelope L’amore Photography
Whether you’re planning a casual buffet, offering stations or providing an elegant four-course plated dinner, your guests will spend 60% to 70% of their time during your reception seated at the dining tables. So capitalize on this opportunity to make your event stand out from the crowd by creating memorable tablescapes. China, glassware and flatware are available to enhance the well-appointed “green” table. And using “real” china, glassware and flatware reduces your wedding’s negative environmental impact. Unlike paper or plastic food-service items (that require landfill space and are typically non-biodegradable), rental, with its reuse / recycle model, is environmentally friendly.

Todd White Photography You’ll have green dishware choices ranging from basic stoneware to the finest bone china. And if you want china that’s not just environmentally friendly, but literally “green”, just ask a rental provider to acquaint you with available options. Gold, silver, rose-gold or even black flatware adds dramatic tabletop flair, and we expect the non-silver flatware trend to continue this year. Colored glassware, available in casual, vintage or classic styles, helps tie the cocktail period to the reception and adds a pop of unexpected color.
Jerry Hayes Photo Sweet Louise Photography
This season, expect to see new metallic décor and design choices. Geometric shapes will dominate many trendy tables. Copper, which is a great complement to the green color palette, is expected to be last year’s rose gold.
We hope you’re excited about 2017 and ready to incorporate Greenery, along with some of the other trends described here, into your hip, hot and happening 2017 wedding. It’ll be lovely!

Premiere & the Amazing Race Austin

This year marked the 9th annual Amazing Race Austin, sponsored by Apartment Data. Premiere Events had the pleasure of being a spot along the race route this year, and we had an absolute blast participating! Companies that raced the 9th annual Amazing Race Austin included Alliance, Amli, Belco, Capstone, CWS, Gables, Greystar, IMT, LPC, MAA, Oden Hughes and USRG.
At our Dripping Springs Showroom on Friday, November 11th, the teams stopped by and were tasked with putting together a complete “event ready” table. If you have not dressed a table before, deciphering each item and its purpose could prove to be a little difficult. Our Dripping Springs consultants did a table mock up prior to the race and took a picture of what it should look like for the teams to reference. Only 4 members from each team could participate in this 15 minute challenge. Check out pictures from the challenge below!
