2014 Newest Trends in Wedding Linens & Tabletop
With every year it seems there are new trends in linens. Of course there is carryover from the previous year, but trends really do change with a new year. We, at Premiere Events, see these trends develop very early in the year as January is a big month for booking wedding linens. Not only have women become engaged during the holidays, but this is the time we run our linen special, so traffic is heavy & the trends become clear very quickly.
2014 is the year of texture. It is ALL about texture in linens. Be it the old standby, dupioni silk, or the more recent texture choices in petals & cut florals, or sheer overlays embellished with sequins- particularly silver sequins; brides want texture in their selections. This emphasis on texture may be a progression of the organic & burlap fabrics that were popular for the past couple of years, but with a much more elegant bent.
Elegance seems to be of prime concern. Moving away from shabby chic with maybe only a hint of vintage showing up in their china selections, brides are going for expensive & glamorous fabrics. Silver & navy seem to be the color trends this year. The deep silver and the navy pintucks are particularly hot as are the crinkle linens. Purple in all shades is also showing popularity.
Another linen trend that has been resurrected from past decades is the overlay. For the past several years brides have opted for only one full length cloth. This was certainly a more economical way to get a beautiful look & probably became popular due to the economic recession. As we see that recession becoming history, brides are again going for the underlay/overlay look. This creates dimension, which in turn creates depth, & evokes more texture.
The biggest trend in table settings is the vintage look china. However, the look is not shabby chic as in the past few years, but more elegant & ornate designs in china; similar to classics such as Wedgwood or Spode. Fortunately, Premiere carries the largest selection of china in Austin. Also gone are the mason jars tied with twine. Brides are selecting finer crystal including cut crystal & etched crystal rimmed in gold or silver. At Premiere we are also seeing more than the usual requests for silver flatware (as opposed to stainless). We offer many beautiful designs in both stainless & silver-plated flatware.
Please feel free to come to Premiere during our business hours & receive our expert & experienced advice in planning your wedding. Whether you are “on trend” or doing your own thing, we want your wedding to be all about your needs & desires. No appointment is necessary & we have tables, linens & all the tabletop items on hand for you to play with & create your own wedding dreams.
